Linen thread - Besides cotton, flax (Linum usitatissimum) is one of the oldest textile materials. It belongs to the group of bast natural cellulose textile fibres. Residues of fabrics found during excavations in Egypt, in historical finds from the Sumer period and at ancient Kolchida prove ancient utilization of flax. High strength, low elongation, high sheen and wear resistance are the main advantages of linen threads. Linen threads are also more resistant against effects of heat, light and climate than cotton threads.
Linen threads are made with a final S bend, fineness TEX 40 x 3 and in windings of 50, 100, 200, 1,000 and 2,000 metres.
The colour chart contains 28 basic shades.
Linen threads are used for button sewing, buttonhole overcasting, sewing heavy clothing and various domestic work (bobbin lacemaking, etc.).
